1.  As stated above, the single most important thing to remember when constructing a web page is your objective.  What do you want to communicate?  Keeping this in mind will help you to know what to include and what is not necessary.

2.  There are many programs that will basically build the site for you.  You merely have to point and click and tell the program what you want where.  The program does the rest for you

3.  When you place photos or other graphics on your page, be sure that they are optimized for the internet.  What looks best on your own computer can often take a very long time to load across the phone lines.  Most photo programs offer the option of compressing the file.

4.  Be sure that the page starts showing something right away.  Some programmers seem to want the entire page to load all at once, but this can cause a person to be looking at a blank page for what seems like a very long time.  Load some text or a small menu or something for the person to view while the larger graphics are loading.

5.  Many people think they can make a fortune if they provide banners and links to other sites.  After all, you can get a penny or two for each person who clicks on one of these links.  The problem is that there are so many sites out there with dozens of these links, that no one can find what they want.  If you have found one or two links that are truly helpful to your visitors, provide the link, whether or not you make a profit for hosting that link.
